Our Favorite Garden Nurseries

Everything is greening up and beginning to bloom! People are starting to get their yards ready for spring and summer…though my understanding is that we shouldn’t yet do spring cleaning yet as a lot of beneficial insects hang out in last year’s leaves.

We have planted a lot of perennial plants in our yard and I can’t wait to see how they all emerge this spring. I do divide plants and move things around. Each year I might buy one new perennial to add somewhere, and I do like to add annuals in a few spots and in pots/baskets. Here are a few of my favorite garden suppliers.

Orange Garden Supply is located at 50 Alden St in Orange (the rear of it is on High Street) and has a great variety of bushes, trees, perennials and annuals. They also have delivery service for purchases and will deliver bulk loads of mulch.

Although it’s a little farther, Morris County Farms (33 Smith Road, Denville NJ) has a special place in my heart as my mom and I used to go there together. If you are going to Wegman’s on Route 10, this is just a little further, and in my opinion worth the trip. I love red bee balm and I can usually find it here. They have a great selection of pots and urns for the garden, and two greenhouses filled with annuals. It’s also a wholesale place and I’ve spotted the Florist Jerry Roses’ vans there on multiple occasions!

I’ve only been to the The Farm at Green Village  (403 Green Village Road, Green Village NJ…Green Village is in just North of the Great Swamp) once but I’ll definitely head back this year! It’s not very far and has an impressive amount of plants. I went last year to check it out and scored some annuals and vegetables later in the season.

SOMA New Jersey Gardening is a local Facebook group with amazing information and local resources. There I learned that the Great Swamp Watershed Association is having its annual Native Plant Sale. There are some varieties left but check it out soon if you are interested in planting from this sale!

Finally, the Maplewood Garden Club Plant Sale is getting ready for its annual sale held at the Maplewood Community Pool Thursday May 11 – Saturday May 13. Three days of plant sales and proceeds go to scholarships and other local good deeds! It’s a great opportunity to get your Mothers Day gifts.

Let me know if you have a favorite local place where you source your plants!
